Literary Analysis Of The Main Features Of Emperor Of Ice Cream

The Modernist Stevens is easily identified by Wallace Stevens poetry. Stevens’ work is more Modernist than Frost’s. He is entirely Modernist. We can see in his poem, “The Emperor of Ice Cream”, how modern funerals are being conducted. He wants us to understand that death is something that all of us will experience at some point in our lives.

He suggests that we must be conscious of the true concept of death. This means that one day, we will leave behind our wealth, beauty, health, work, family, and everything we have worked for. The writer also encourages us to enjoy our lives and to enjoy our ice cream. He believes that only those who control pleasure and happiness have real power. Stevens says that Ice Cream is the Emperor and we will all be the “cold” and “dumb” when we die. Stevens was also known Supreme Fiction for his belief that poetry could be used to understand reality.

Wallace Stevens believes poetry is a way to see reality. Modernism is what Wallace Stevens uses to understand reality.
