The Importance Of Ethnocentrism In America

Ethnocentrism means judging another culture by your own. It is common to see this in American culture. Hollywood is a good example. They portray different cultures with bias. The stereotypes tend to be outlandish and excessive. Because one ethnic group is doing it, they assume that the entire ethnic group will do it. That is wrong. What is true on a partial basis is not necessarily true on a whole. For socially skilled nursing to be improved, it is important to examine ethnocentric practices. Ethnocentric approaches, as reflected in the article, led to poor patient outcomes. While it may be believed that a familiarity of individual esteems can create social fitness for a person, ethnocentrism becomes a part of their social cosmetics. Ethnocentrism has a vague and undefined meaning in nursing literature. The Walker and Avant method of idea investigation is used to clarify the importance for a new definition.

Take the Arabs seriously. In Hollywood films, they are often depicted as bandits, murderers, rapists, and vigilantes. For a more detailed look, let’s take the evil Arab characters that are constantly malignant and depicted in movies as oppressors who cause blasts and shootings. Ali-Baba is a good example. The character of Ali-Baba was always prepared to carry out suicide bombings. The desert mad dog was his nickname. Presumptuous Arab, who is extremely apprehensive. He can be harsh and rude to the women. It’s almost like Jafar in “Aladdin”. Ethnocentrism has two sides. There is a positive aspect and a negative. Positive ethnocentrism is centered on culture and inspires confidence. Negative ethnocentrism leads to arrogance. Hollywood’s negative portrayals of Arabs is an example of ethnocentrism. They are depicted as violent bandits who commit brutal murders. They are also portrayed as being naive, dumb and gullible.

We can learn more about the culture and values of the person judging us than the one whose work we are evaluating. We are more likely to understand the words of the judge if we can see him. So, we are curious to know the reason why he’s saying these things. Ethnocentrism makes us make false assumptions about social differences. When we apply our social standards in order to make assumptions about the cultures and traditions of others, this is ethnocentrism. We can misunderstand different groups by making such speculative assumptions. Ethnocentrism leads to confusion in society and can often distort communication.
